Just under an hour from both my hometown of Groveport, Ohio, and the more recognizable Columbus, Ohio, is Sunrise Sanctuary, located in rural Marysville. Sunrise is home to over 170 animals who otherwise wouldn't have homes, including cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, goats, horses, cats, and a single dog. After going vegan two years ago, I was looking for a non-exploitative alternative to for-profit institutions and stumbled upon their website (www.sunrisesanctuary.org), and after an Open Barn Day visit, fell in love. While interning at 614 Magazine in the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to shoot a story on Sunrise, which can be seen both below in the second gallery and in the August 2019 issue (view here).
